Mexico updated its visa-issuance guidelines in May 2026. Companies that bring foreign staff or specialists to Mexico now face more detailed requirements, and there is a new route for experts who come to train local teams.
What changed
- Job-offer visas: the application must describe the role, the workplace and the work arrangement more precisely.
- New route for specialists: experts invited by a Mexican company, without pay in Mexico, to transfer knowledge to local staff under a defined training programme.
- Company responsibility: the inviting company answers for the visitor’s support and return.
What to do now
Before a transfer or a technical visit, check that the company is registered with the National Migration Institute (INM), that the job offer or invitation letter matches the new requirements, and that payroll and tax registration are aligned with the visa type. A documentation check up front can save weeks at the consulate.
The reform was published in the Diario Oficial de la Federación in May 2026. Guidance and consular practice may change.
